  1. Learn — first, we’ll cover all basic driving skills within the first 10 hours. We will give you practical experience of all road types, junctions and all the reversing manoeuvres. You won’t just sit in the car and talk!
  2. Develop — then, we’ll be there to support you whilst you practice your new-found skills.
  3. Master — finally, we’ll teach you to make the right driving decisions on your own. You’ll develop the confidence to pass your driving test first time!

Above all else, our motto is: fun gets done! We believe that you will find learning easier if you are relaxed and enjoying your lessons.

How to find the right driving instructor for you

Finding a driving instructor who you feel comfortable with can be difficult. But it’s absolutely vital if you want to become a confident and relaxed driver.

Everybody learns differently and at a different pace. Some prefer being shown first, others prefer to dive straight in and have a go. It’s important that your instructor not only understands this, but knows exactly how to work with your particular learning style.

We think it’s impossible to know for certain whether an instructor is right for you until you’ve actually taken a lesson with them. That’s why we give you your first session half-price! No need to block book hours of sessions in advance. In fact, there’s no obligation to continue taking lessons with us at all!

Once you’re confident we can help you pass, you’ll then be able to take advantage of our block booking discount and make yourself a tidy saving!

Try us out – before you commit!

We’re confident you’ll love taking your driving lessons with us. But don’t take our word for it – simply book your no-obligation beginner’s lesson and see for yourself.

Then, once you are completely satisfied with the quality of our driving tuition, you can buy a block of 10 hours and get a £2 discount off our normal hourly rate!

…or perhaps you’ve already taken classes with another school and are now waiting to take your test? No problem. We offer test preparation and refresher courses too!

How do pupils rate our driving school?

How-2-Drive
Based on 1989 reviews
Just passed my driving test first time, with Barry Robinson at How 2 Drive. Barry is my Step Dad but lessons were done as if I was just a pupil, he was calm, relaxed and explained everything to me in a way that made it simple to follow and learn. I felt good progress was made every lesson and the free theory test app and resources were very useful leading up to my test. Very happy and can definitely recommend to anyone wanting to learn. Thank you Barry
Andrew has been an amazing instructor. He has always been very friendly and happy to adjust to any issues I had. He allowed me to feel confident in my driving skills and is quick to give advice and guidance, encouraging me when driving seemed like such a monumental task. I felt really comfortable with him, always happy to chat about other topics while driving around Norwich. I would really recommend him to others as he is a kind and reassuring person. 10/10 he made driving all the easier to pass
Can’t explain how well my experience went when going with How To Drive for my driving journey. My instructor was Barry Robinson, he made me feel comfortable and stress free the second I sat in the car. He explained things real clear in ways that I would understand & got me my pass!

Would highly recommend Barry & How To Drive to any new drivers.
I had the pleasure of having Jerry as my driving instructor, I cannot thank him enough for the patience he had with me and for helping me pass my test first time! I was an incredibly anxious driver at the start of our lessons and Jerry helped me tackle this and become confident with my ability to drive!
My instructor was James Tinsey, and he is incredible, really - super patient and always just unshakeably calm (which is on its own a trait to learn from and apply both in driving and anywhere else), always has extremely clear and straight to the point explanations and advice, and is incredibly supportive too.
Also, lessons’ arrangements, structure, plans ahead, etc - were always super professional and overall clear to navigate.
Really really loved our lessons, and was a lot of fun too! And I passed the test the first time!:)
Thank you so so much!!

How long will it take to pass my practical test?

If you are a complete beginner, we can teach you how to drive to a high standard in about 30 hours. By this point you’ll be ready to pass your UK practical test.

If you’re a learner driver who already has some road experience, we’ll aim to do it even quicker than that!

How many driving lessons will I need before I take my test?

This is easily one of the most common questions we get asked at How-2-Drive.

We know you want to learn how to drive in as few lessons as possible. We understand that you don’t want to feel rushed. But, at the same time, you also don’t want your tuition to drag on for longer than necessary.

Clearly-structured driving lessons

By using our Structured Driver Training System, we are able to deliver well-planned lessons that have clear objectives. Learning to drive is a considerable investment and we want you to get good value for your money.

According to the DVSA, it takes an average of 47 hours to pass the practical driving test. And that’s for learners who are sensible enough to study with an Approved Driving Instructor. On top of this, the DVSA says an additional 20 hours of private driving practice is also required.

How many sessions can we save you?

But who wants to be average? As a result of our specially-designed Structured Driver Training System, our pupils take 17 hours less than the DVSA average!

Our tried-and-tested system can reduce the time it will take you to learn to drive. We consistently bring our pupils up to pass standard within 30 to 40 hours of instructor contact time.

That’s up to 17 hours less than the average learner driver. We can save you time and money!

How will I know how I’m getting on with my lessons?

You will be given access to our How-2-Drive app when you start taking driving lessons with us.

Your instructor will use it to record your progress after each lesson. This will give you a record of how well you are doing and what you need to learn or practice next.

You will also be encouraged to keep a reflective log. You can use this to review your own learning so that you can discuss your objectives with your driving instructor at the start of each lesson.

Will you help me with my UK theory test?

Yes, we will! We’ll give you our FREE Theory Test App which will allow you to learn at your own pace.

But, theory is nothing without practice! So, during your practical driving lessons, we’ll bring the theory you’ve learned to life!

We generally recommend taking your theory test as soon as possible. This way, it won’t hold you back when your instructor tells you you’re ready to book your practical test.

Read our guide to preparing for your driving theory test to get started!

Will you pick me up from work or college and drop me home?

Yes, of course – provided its within our local area and you make your instructor aware before your lesson.

*According to the DVSA (the people who set the driving test) it takes on average 47 hours of driving lessons and another 20 hours of private practice to pass the UK driving test.

By using our structured driver training system, we help our learners pass after an average of just 30 hours of driving lessons – that’s 17 hours fewer than the DVSA average!
