Save money with automatic driving tuition

Pass your test in less time by taking driving lessons in an automatic car. Learning to how drive an automatic is easier and will take less time – saving you money.

Perhaps you want to pass your test more quickly, but would rather not take an intensive course? Or maybe you’ve already had tuition in a manual car and have decided to ditch the manual gears and the clutch for an easier drive?

You'll enjoy taking automatic driving lessons in our Citroen DS3 tuition vehicle.

Automatic cars are perfect if you expect to do a lot of city driving where you’ll be stopping and starting frequently. They may also suit drivers who have a disability that makes changing gear difficult.

How-2-Drive have been helping people pass their driving tests in manual cars since 2009. We’re proud to now be able to offer automatic driving lessons in Norwich and the surrounding suburbs too.

Need to pass within a few weeks? We’ve got you covered! Learn more about our intensive driving courses in the Norwich area.

Pass your test sooner in an automatic car

Learning to drive an automatic car is ideal if you are nervous about driving or simply want to get your driving licence sooner without the fuss of changing through all those gears! Just think — no tricky hill starts, struggling to find the biting point, or wondering “what gear do I need for this busy roundabout?”

Despite all the benefits of learning to drive in an automatic, think carefully before making your final decision. Once you pass your automatic driving test you will have a UK licence that forbids you from driving manual vehicles. This may limit your choices later on in life when buying or renting cars.

If you still haven’t decided, you might want to consider taking driving lessons in a manual car.

How do pupils rate our driving school?

I had the pleasure of having Jerry as my driving instructor, I cannot thank him enough for the patience he had with me and for helping me pass my test first time! I was an incredibly anxious driver at the start of our lessons and Jerry helped me tackle this and become confident with my ability to drive!
My instructor was James Tinsey, and he is incredible, really - super patient and always just unshakeably calm (which is on its own a trait to learn from and apply both in driving and anywhere else), always has extremely clear and straight to the point explanations and advice, and is incredibly supportive too.
Also, lessons’ arrangements, structure, plans ahead, etc - were always super professional and overall clear to navigate.
Really really loved our lessons, and was a lot of fun too! And I passed the test the first time!:)
Thank you so so much!!
Passed with 1 fault, thank you to Mark for everything. The lessons were planned out perfectly for me to be test ready as soon as safely possible. Definitely recommend Mark to anyone wanting to learn how to drive.
for instructor- George Lloyd-Williams, helped me pass first time, very good instructor every lesson was very detailed and explained perfectly. Would highly recommend.

How many driving lessons will I need before I take my test?

This is easily one of the most common questions we get asked at How-2-Drive.

We know you want to learn how to drive in as few lessons as possible. We understand that you don’t want to feel rushed. But, at the same time, you also don’t want your tuition to drag on for longer than necessary.

Clearly-structured driving lessons

By using our Structured Driver Training System, we are able to deliver well-planned lessons that have clear objectives. Learning to drive is a considerable investment and we want you to get good value for your money.

According to the DVSA, it takes an average of 47 hours to pass the practical driving test. And that’s for learners who are sensible enough to study with an Approved Driving Instructor. On top of this, the DVSA says an additional 20 hours of private driving practice is also required.

How many sessions can we save you?

But who wants to be average? As a result of our specially-designed Structured Driver Training System, our pupils take 17 hours less than the DVSA average!

Our tried-and-tested system can reduce the time it will take you to learn to drive. We consistently bring our pupils up to pass standard within 30 to 40 hours of instructor contact time.

That’s up to 17 hours less than the average learner driver. We can save you time and money!

How will I know how I’m getting on with my lessons?

You will be given access to our How-2-Drive app when you start taking driving lessons with us.

Your instructor will use it to record your progress after each lesson. This will give you a record of how well you are doing and what you need to learn or practice next.

You will also be encouraged to keep a reflective log. You can use this to review your own learning so that you can discuss your objectives with your driving instructor at the start of each lesson.

Is there a trial offer for automatic lessons?

Yes, there is! Before you commit to anything you can take advantage of our introductory offer for beginners.

Simply book your beginner’s lesson with us and you’ll get a full two-hour session for half price!

Why should I learn to drive in an automatic car?

Learning to drive an automatic is easier because there’s no need to worry about changing gears or balancing the clutch.

Driving an automatic may suit you if you have tried learning in a car with manual transmission and struggled – or if you’re in a hurry to get your licence but don’t want to take an intensive course.

Will I be able to drive a manual car with an automatic licence?

No – so think carefully before you decide to learn how to drive in an automatic car.

Even once you’ve passed your automatic driving test, you’ll only be allowed to drive cars and vans that have an automatic transmission or dual clutch system.

With the rise of electric vehicles this is becoming less of a drawback than it used to be but it’s worth thinking about how you plan to use your driving skills in the future before you commit to anything.

Will it take me less time to learn in an automatic?

Yes – compared to learning in a manual car, you will need fewer lessons to master the controls. You’ll have more time to concentrate on the road, allowing you to pick up the essential road skills sooner.

For these reasons, the main benefit with taking lessons in an automatic car is that it will save you time and money!

Will you help me with my UK theory test?

Yes, we will! We’ll give you our FREE Theory Test App which will allow you to learn at your own pace.

But, theory is nothing without practice! So, during your practical driving lessons, we’ll bring the theory you’ve learned to life!

We generally recommend taking your theory test as soon as possible. This way, it won’t hold you back when your instructor tells you you’re ready to book your practical test.

Read our guide to preparing for your driving theory test to get started!

Will you pick me up from work or college and drop me home?

Yes, of course – provided its within our local area and you make your instructor aware before your lesson.

*According to the DVSA (the people who set the driving test) it takes on average 47 hours of driving lessons and another 20 hours of private practice to pass the UK driving test.

By using our structured driver training system, we help our learners pass after an average of just 30 hours of driving lessons – that’s 17 hours fewer than the DVSA average!
