Save money with automatic driving tuition

Pass your test in less time by taking driving lessons in an automatic car. Learning to how drive an automatic is easier and will take less time – saving you money.

Perhaps you want to pass your test more quickly, but would rather not take an intensive course? Or maybe you’ve already had tuition in a manual car and have decided to ditch the manual gears and the clutch for an easier drive?

You could be taking driving lessons in one of our premium automatic tuition vehicles!

Automatic cars are perfect if you expect to do a lot of city driving where you’ll be stopping and starting frequently. They may also suit drivers who have a disability that makes changing gear difficult.

How-2-Drive have been helping people pass their driving tests in manual cars since 2009. We’re proud to now be able to offer automatic driving lessons in Norwich and the surrounding suburbs too.

Need to pass within a few weeks? We’ve got you covered! Learn more about our intensive driving courses in the Norwich area.

Pass your test sooner in an automatic car

Learning to drive an automatic car is ideal if you are nervous about driving or simply want to get your driving licence sooner without the fuss of changing through all those gears! Just think — no tricky hill starts, struggling to find the biting point, or wondering “what gear do I need for this busy roundabout?”

Despite all the benefits of learning to drive in an automatic, think carefully before making your final decision. Once you pass your automatic driving test you will have a UK licence that forbids you from driving manual vehicles. This may limit your choices later on in life when buying or renting cars.

If you still haven’t decided, you might want to consider taking driving lessons in a manual car.

I had a great experience learning to drive with Chris Backshaw, feeling comfortable throughout our lessons thanks to his patient and encouraging style of teaching. I was able to pass my practical driving test first time with just one minor leaving me feeling very well prepared for driving independently. I would highly recommend Chris as a driving instructor particularly for any nervous drivers because of his calm and supportive approach.
Tim is an amazing instructor who’s patient and honest and helps out on mistakes. He gives great feedback every lesson and i was always improving with him. 10/10
5* and endless thank yous to Wayne Bennett.

Wayne is an incredible instructor. Patient, kind, thoughtful and understanding. His way of teaching is easy to understand and boosts your confidence in driving to succeed.

He is so understanding if you’re a nervous driver or have special needs and will accommodate you to the best of his ability.

Wayne also loves a chat and will make you feel very welcome, calming your nerves and having someone to talk to while in an environment that you’re not used to as a learner driver.

I totally recommend him.

10/10 instructor. 10/10 person.
Absolutely incredible instructor!
I couldn’t recommend Tim Ecclestone more, he listened to me every time I said I was struggling with something and he taught me how to do them properly with so much patience and understanding.
Our lessons were always so fun and informative, and he helped me become a much more confident driver 😊
I passed first time with three minors, and that was mainly down to my fantastic instructor, Sue King.
I was quite nervous at first about starting to learn to drive, but straight away she helped me build my confidence up.
When I made mistakes, Sue always kept a calm demeanour but still provided me with constructive feedback that didn’t knock my confidence.
She developed various driving techniques that I could deploy if I was finding something difficult to grasp, until we found what worked best for me.

I highly recommend Sue to anyone wanting to learn to drive 10/10!

Why Learn To Drive in an Automatic Car?

It’s easier because there’s no need to worry about changing gears. An automatic car may suit you if you have tried learning in a car with manual transmission and struggled, or if you’re in a hurry to pass and get your licence.

Will I Be Allowed to Drive a Manual Car When I Pass?

No — so think carefully before you decide whether you want to learn to drive in an automatic car. Even once you’ve passed your driving test, you’ll only be allowed to drive cars and vans that have an automatic transmission or dual clutch system.

*According to the DVSA (the people who set the driving test) it takes on average 47 hours of driving lessons and another 20 hours of private practice to pass the UK driving test.

By using our structured driver training system, we help our learners pass after an average of just 30 hours of driving lessons – that’s 17 hours fewer than the DVSA average!
